The Winchester Community Library genealogy collection contains the major Randolph County histories, including History of Randolph County, Indiana by E. Tucker, Past and Present of Randolph County Indiana by John Smith, Randolph County, Indiana 1818-1990, and A Portrait and Biographical Record of Delaware and Randolph Counties, Ind. as well as an assortment of yearbooks, unofficial cemetery records, newspaper clippings and family histories.
The library holds copies of the local Winchester newspaper on microfilm dating back to 1876. However, there are a few gaps in these holdings. The missing issues include, but may not be limited to:
1882-85, 1890-91, 1901, 1912, 1920, 1922
Photocopies of obituaries are available from the newspaper archives for those who have a date of death. In addition, several years of obituaries have been bound and indexed are available for easy searching by name. Years available in bound volumes include:
1900-1961 (missing 1943, 1956, 1959 and 1960)
Requests for genealogy searches can be sent to email@example.com. There is a minimum $5 charge for genealogy searches. Searches for obituaries cannot be conducted without a close approximation of the date of death.
