Friends of the Library
Friends of Winchester Library (FOWL)
The purpose of this organization shall be to maintain an association of persons interested in libraries; to focus public attention on the library; to stimulate the use of the library’s resources and services; to receive and encourage gifts, endowments and bequests to the library to support and cooperate with the library in developing library services and facilities for the community; to lend legislative support where needed; and to support the freedom to read as expressed in the American Library Association Bill of Rights.
What are the benefits of FOWL membership?
FOWL membership offers early access to book sales prior to the general public, invitation to the annual dinner, semi-annual newsletter mailings and the opportunity to support the Winchester Community Library.
FOWL Fundraising Activities
Individual - $5
Associate - $25
Carnegie Sponsorship - $50
Applications for membership are available at the adult department circulation desk.
FOWL book sales usually take place in the spring and fall in the library's Carnegie Meeting Room. Please check the calendar of events or call the library for exact dates.
A small selection of books is also available for purchase at anytime during regular library hours. The cart of books is located just inside the main doors of the library, near the elevator. Books may be paid for at the adult circulation desk..
Staff Appreciation Dinner
FOWL sponsors an annual dinner in appreciation of the library staff. Each February, library staff and their families are invited to enjoy an evening of good food and fellowship.
Each Spring, FOWL sponsors and annual meeting of all members where annual dues are collected and new FOWL officers are elected for the upcoming year. FOWL also invites a speaker of local interest to give a presentation at the dinner.
FOWL awards a $500 scholarship each year to a graduating senior at Winchester Community High School.
